L'ILLUSION DE SMOKING | Inspired by Helmut Newton

PROJECT
Our creative team has collaborated on several unique fashion stories featuring Laduree, Louis Vuitton, Philip Lim, and several young rising French designers. This particular project, "L’illusion de Smoking" features Italian designer, Canali - which has been a great source of inspiration over the past several years.
CREATION / INSPIRATION
During a visit to Paris several weeks prior to our Laduree shooting, I had the privilege of attending the opening of Exposition “Helmut Newton” : Grand Palais. It was so incredibly inspiring, that in the same moment it was decided the importance of paying homage to one of Newton’s greatest works, “Le Smoking”.
The session is called, “L’illusion de Smoking” ...creating a delusional twist to Newton’s original, where he used only female models mannishly dressed on the dimly lit Parisian pavements of Rue Aubroit. We shot on the very same street and location as Helmut Newton’s original photographs and in the early hours of the morning.
Soon after, the results from the shooting had provided a different point of view. Perhaps it was the elaboration of new faces and a new wave of seduction and allurement, demure and desire - bringing some "L'illusion" to one of Newton's most famous photographs.
